I have so many feelings

Just got a postcard from Anne in Prague. She quotes Kafka:

Nominations for next year’s peace corps May 26. I can wait, but so MUCH waiting … !

Do you ever hear the word “loath” outside of the phrase “I would be loath”?

Loath. Loath. Loaf. Loff. Dadadadadada. 

Sitting at the back row during Roots of Feminism, I saw an astonishing number of students playing on facebook for the entirety of Alex Owen’s brilliant lecture on feminist interventions in psychoanalysis. I don’t understand how looking at pictures of your drunk friends dressed up like schoolgirls is more interesting than Lacan and Chodorow. IT JUST DOESN’T COMPUTE!!!!! 

Also, a weird moment while reading with kids at the elementary school. A little girl called out to another, “Hey, where’s your mom?” Her friend said, “In prison,” and walked away. The first girl turned to me and whispered, “I know why she’s in prison. She cut somebody.” Wtf, little kids - how do you already know how to use another person’s pain against her??
