Obsession developing with Lorado Taft, turn-of-the-century Chicago sculptor. I’m already attached to that era in Chicago - even as a kid, the city always presented itself to me in a series of art nouveau lines, slender figures, and geometric shapes. But just LOOK at these… at the risk of stating the obvious, look how much feeling’s in the stone!!
I’ve seen his sculptures in and around the Art Institute, and loved them for years, but I’d never connected them with their sculptor. A couple weeks ago I was so, so excited when I found a hallway of the Harold Washington library devoted to photos of his work. Check it out if it’s still there!
Oh, and look what I just found - thanks, Eight Forty-Eight: http://www.chicagopublicradio.org/Content.aspx?audioID=41664
